Enhancing student resilience through collaborative activities during pandemic

I am excited to share this article with you that I published on teaching during COVID-19 in eSchool News.

I write about how remote learning poses challenges for student well-being and mental health but also how schools can support students through the incorporation of collaborative assignments that provide students with shared experiences and interpersonal communication.

A few of these strategies that I've integrated into my teaching include:

Collaborative song writing/performance through video conference (see more here on a climate change lesson plan for doing precisely this).
Creation of political cartoons, storyboards, and posters on various topics (e.g. the gender imbalance in India) through digital tools
Break-out groups with guided questions to facilitate student discussion and inquiry
Role plays (e.g. gender fishbowl), debates, and simulations to engage students in different topics

These collaborative activities could not only boost student resilience but also promote the critical thinking, research, problem solving, technological, and civic oriented skills of students and prepare them for the tasks and challenges they are likely to encounter throughout their academic and professional lives in an increasingly digital world.
